My name is La’Dawn Young, I go by Tru. Tru stands for being “True to You”. I stand by this name because I believe that what you see is what you get. I am a light spirited person and I have the ability to get people to be honest, not only with me but with themselves as well. I am a creative artist who loves to paint and do makeup professionally. My goal is to do Special Effects Makeup for films one day. I’ve achieved this goal locally, now I’m looking to expand outside of the city. I am also an events coordinator and have put on several fashion shows here in Cleveland and one in Los Angeles. I am a 3rd year student at Baldwin Wallace University, studying Arts Management and Entrepreneurship with a minor in Communications. While at BW I traveled to Washington D.C., attended the Rock Hall Induction Ceremony and even became the wig master for BW’s play, “Bonnets”. I love being a student with endless hopes and dreams. With my degree I intend to become a community outreach and engagement specialist for a non-profit. 

When I am not at school I am at work. I currently have 3 jobs and am a full time student. A lot I know, but I am resilient and ambitious. I work for a non-profit called Queen I Am as a program Facilitator. Working with young girls teaching them about self- esteem, confidence building, and how to be a Queen, has its rewards. I also work for two agencies taking care of people with developmental disabilities. I love this job because it is a humbling position. Taking care of my clients in the best way possible always leaves a smile on my face. It is especially rewarding when the client tells me they love me and gives me heartfelt hugs.

As an intern here at The Greater Cleveland Film Commission, I am sure I will learn all there is to know about Film in Cleveland. I look forward to learning about grants and events. I am eager to expand my skills in the office while showing what I have to offer to the company. Over the next few weeks I am excited to grow and develop professionally and personally.
