Learn what drives the Greater Cleveland Film Commission—our mission, our vision, and our commitment to growing Northeast Ohio’s film and media industry.

Founded in 1998 and incorporated as a 501(c)3 in 2002, the Greater Cleveland Film Commission (GCFC) is the only arts-driven business development organization that brings jobs and economic impact to Northeast Ohio utilizing the motion picture industry.

As a community-funded, non-governmental organization, GCFC receives $0 from the productions that film in Northeast Ohio.

We rely on the support of businesses, community partners, and the generosity of individuals to continue in our work.

In 2009, GCFC led the charge for Ohio to pass the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit (OMPTC), an incentive to drive media business to our state. Since then, the OMPTC has generated over $1.4 billion in gross economic output and created over 7,100 full-time equivalent jobs. 60-70% of this activity occurred in Greater Cleveland, thanks to our work.

MISSION

To attract economic investment and job creation via film and media production to Northeast Ohio by advocating for legislation that drives spending to Ohio, attracting media productions to choose our region as their base of operations, and educating the local workforce with the skills to fill the local industry jobs.

VISION

To achieve increased economic development in Northeast Ohio by using the artistic and culturally enriching activities of film and other media production to strengthen the workforce, support the media production industry and attract media production to the region.

REEL EDUCTION, REAL JOBS, FOR ALL

GCFC workforce training programs are designed to provide local talent with the education and tools needed to succeed in the industry. Since its inception, GCFC has partnered with local arts and higher education institutions interested in film and media education to develop relevant, employer-driven curricula and workforce development programs. We utilize the expertise of working industry professionals paired with our staff's nearly 90 years of combined industry experience to enhance the programs we offer.

BUSINESS ATTRACTION

GCFC aggressively pursues media productions and businesses that can positively impact the local economy. The organization serves as a convenient, all-encompassing resource for local, national and international producers and filmmakers to ensure great filming experiences while providing “concierge services” to all productions in town.

ADVOCACY

After successfully lobbying the State of Ohio to create a competitive film tax incentive in 2009, GCFC continues to advocate for optimal public policy and promote local production activity.

ACCREDITATION

GCFC is a member of the Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI).
