Position: Director of Cinematheque

The Director will be responsible for operations and programming presenting a global selection of specialty films to the public and the CIA community. Building on Cinematheque’s legacy of introducing trailblazing films, and CIA’s rich history of art and design education, the Director will be expected to expand and enhance Cinematheque’s influence on its communities. This position is well suited to an individual who thrives when working among creative people. Candidates who are motivated to connect with a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community are encouraged to apply. The new Director will have strong leadership and management skills, a deep knowledge of film and the industry, excellent communication, networking, fundraising skills, and outstanding interpersonal skills. In addition to providing oversight of the staff and operations, this individual should be prepared to roll up their sleeves as needed, to get the job done. Academic credentials in the field will be a plus, with the consideration to teach film to both degree-seeking students and participants in continuing education programs a possibility. Basically, you gotta love film!

A successful candidate should be a film lover who has a passion for the creative process and appreciates the power of film. You will require an in-depth knowledge of the film business, film history, and aesthetics. This deep knowledge of film, the industry, and film history comes through work or other experience –possibly including academia. You’ll have the background and credibility to speak for the Cinematheque and the CIA among filmmakers, the media, and others in the industry. This level of knowledge and skills can be acquired through a graduate degree and/or undergraduate studies in film or a closely related field. An exceptional knowledge of film history and aesthetics, and significant years of experience in the film business (e.g., film programming, motion picture promotion, theatre operation, grant writing) will be balanced against such academic credentials.

We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized or underrepresented in art and higher education and who will contribute to the breadth and diversity of our community.
