Hello! My name is Eliza Farrall, and I am a member of the class of 2027 at Ohio State University. Although I spend most of my year in Columbus now, I am a Clevelander at heart. I've always loved this city and its under-appreciated natural beauty, especially since I spent my adolescence rowing on the Cuyahoga River. Looking at the city skyline from the water every afternoon was cinematic, to say the least, and it's what fueled my desire to share Cleveland's wonder with the world.
In Columbus, I am double majoring in Philosophy, Politics, & Economics (B.A.) and Economics (B.S.) with a minor in Media Production and Analysis. This combination of studies is preparing me for whatever career I find myself pursuing. I am building myself a diverse toolbox of resources that I can pull from as I make my way to a fulfilling career.
I have loved film for as long as I can remember. When I was eight years old, my dad took me to visit the Avengers set filming in Cleveland. Seeing those cars turned over and rubble on the streets where I lived was shocking. Since then, I have loved watching movies and have taken any opportunity I could to be a part of a film production.
I started with theater programs and local camps, then in high school, I managed live sound mixing for school musicals and helped build a community for students in media arts. In college, I perform and produce improv comedy shows. My passion for those performances has only grown my appreciation and love for the film industry. I have helped out behind the scenes on a couple student films, and have written a few scripts through Ohio State’s film classes. I am more than excited to continue to build my film repertoire.
This summer, I am adding the GCFC to my toolbox. I am so grateful for the opportunity to get to meet and work with all these inspiring filmmakers. I found out about this program last summer, when I was walking around the Superman set as a pedestrian, and I ended up talking to some of the crew members. It was so inspiring seeing an
other big budget film set in person. A career in film seemed to be within my reach in a way it hadn’t before. I applied for this internship as soon as I could, and I could not be more excited for the experience.
There is so much more to the film industry than meets the eye. My experience on student film sets has taught me that there is always more to learn. I am eager to do whatever I can to be involved with the filmmaking process. I have not narrowed down a specific career yet, but I know I want to make a difference in whatever I do, if that thing is helping
on-set production or analyzing economic policy. I am excited to see where this road will take me, and I am grateful to the GCFC for giving me this opportunity.
