Hello everyone! My name is Gustav Schuster and I am a participant of the summer job shadow program at GCFC. I am originally from Salem, OH (Youngstown area) but am currently living in North Canton. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelors degree in English in 2022.. I am an only child and in a loving relationship with my partner who owns and operates a trophy and engraving shop in my hometown where I sometimes operate and work. I tend to be a homebody and focus a lot on writing short stories and reading novels that reside within the horror genre. I also have an affinity for making lists for anything and everything that’s possible, maybe even riding the line of absurdity.
My favorite film franchise would have to be Scream as I love the simplicity of the slasher plot but also how everything comes together in a way that possesses such a ‘wow’ factor. The Conjuring franchise also holds a place in my heart, specifically for the lore aspect as that is something I always try to include when it comes to my own stories. I am currently watching the newest season of The Sandman on Netflix and, while it’s not necessarily horror, I do appreciate the lore behind the story and the production design of the settings.
I wanted to experience the GCFC environment in order to take my first steps into the film industry. I’ve always been a little lost when it comes to a career path, but I figured taking a step into any realm of the industry would be a valuable experience. I’m hoping to get a better understanding of what sort of careers are out there for me and what I would be best suited for. All in all, I am most looking forward to absorbing everything I experience throughout the job shadow and use it to decide what path I would like to further pursue. Any open door is a perfect one if you’re willing to take on the journey no matter how far it goes.
My number one career aspiration would be to see all the work I’ve put in writing the script come to fruition on the big screen. No matter the budget or studio, all I want is to be able to look up at the screen and know that all of my hard work was worth it. When it comes to actually working in the industry, I would also hope to one day lead my own team in creating a feature film based on scripts I’ve written as well as taking a chance on ones produced by those around me.
