Maria Rouzzo

Since I could walk and talk, television and film have been a major part of my life. My father, whom I call the original IMDb, was a walking encyclopedia of movies and TV, and through him, I developed a deep appreciation for the industry. Meanwhile, my mother had me completely immersed in the world of daytime television. My father made sure we traveled to Los Angeles often, and we toured the studios when I was growing up. My TV favorites range from Family Affair to my daily, never-missed dose of The Bold and the Beautiful and Beyond the Gates. I just recently watched and loved Novocaine, and I am always on the lookout for great stories on screen.

I have been a musician and singer since the age of 8, and I started acting in 1993 at Karamu House. My career took me to Los Angeles, where I expanded my work in the entertainment industry on major TV and film productions for six years, from 2018 to 2024. I am thankful that I have the opportunity to contribute to Cleveland’s film industry while also able to work in Los Angeles. I am a SAG-AFTRA member and excited to further expand my industry knowledge through my internship at the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. My goal is to merge everything I have learned into a thorough understanding of production—from development to post-production—and how all the moving parts work together to bring a project to life.

I am a graduate of the Tri-C Film Academy Film Crew Intensive Training program and have attended both the Tri-C Film Academy's and GCFC's PA Workshops. Through this internship, I am excited to further deepen my understanding of film and television production logistics—learning more about the incentives, partnerships, and strategies that attract projects to Cleveland. I am most looking forward to collaborating with industry professionals, building connections, and contributing to the efforts that bring more filming opportunities to my hometown. The GCFC Mixers are the ideal setting that I love when local, native industry individuals can stay connected.

Additionally, with my extensive real estate experience, I am interested in working with Locations. I want to explore how I can bridge the gap between available homes and a production’s location needs—finding economical solutions for property owners and landowners while capturing even more ideal settings that are available for productions.

My career aspirations are Director, Producer, and Showrunner. I want to lead and create compelling stories that resonate with audiences, combining my passion for performance with my growing knowledge of production.

I am excited and grateful to be part of the GCFC Spring Internship, as it is an invaluable opportunity to take my career to the next level and contribute to Cleveland’s ever-growing film industry.
