Meet the Intern: Kira Kadar

Tuesday, April 08, 2025

Maria Rouzzo

Hello! My name is Kira Kadar and I recently completed a job shadow with the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. I grew up in the Cleveland area, but now live in Columbus, Ohio. This past December I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in English. In my time as an English major, I enjoyed diving into a variety of texts and learning more about creative writing.

My interest in film comes from a love of storytelling, which first started with reading. Throughout middle school and high school, I was constantly reading. This love of storytelling slowly morphed to include photography and short films for school projects growing up. It is this passion for stories that led me to major in English and drew me to other professional experiences. In my time in college, I interned for WOSU-NPR’s All Sides radio show which allowed me to work hands-on as an intern producer. Again, this further instilled my love of storytelling and sharing information with an audience. Throughout my experiences I’ve always come back to a love of reading and watching stories unfold.

Film has always been an interest of mine, and recently that love has been rekindled after taking a world cinema course towards the end of my time at college. Through that course, I watched films like Cléo from 5 to 7 (1962), Citizen Kane (1941), and Do the Right Thing (1989). Studying films in that course furthered my appreciation for film as a wonderful art form. Some of my favorite movies are Pride and Prejudice (2005), When Harry Met Sally (1989), and Little Women (2019). I also enjoy Hayao Miyazaki movies and some of my recent favorites are Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022), Anatomy of a Fall (2023), and Past Lives (2023). My all time favorite television show is Gilmore Girls, and it is constantly on repeat in my house.

I wanted to do a job shadow with the Film Commission to learn more about the industry. After graduating I am still figuring out what path I want to pursue and my time with the Commission allowed me to get great insight into the industry. During my job shadow, I also learned about all the opportunities the Commission brings to Cleveland and being able to grow the industry locally. I’m still working to find what my future career path might be, but learning from the Commission allowed me to get great insights into the industry. In the future, I hope to keep learning about the industry, and working towards finding a creative pursuit!
