Investigative Producer
WKYC-TV, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate in Cleveland is seeking an Investigative producer. This role is ideal for a passionate storyteller committed to creating original, impactful content that resonates with our audience. We are seeking a curious individual ready to dig into enterprise stories for both day turns and long form stories.
Responsibilities:
• Story Ideation and Pitching:
Identify and pitch compelling investigative story ideas, demonstrating a strong sense of news judgment and audience engagement.
• Research and Verification:
Conduct in-depth research, including using public records, interviewing sources, and utilizing various digital tools.
• Script Writing and Production:
Write clear, compelling scripts for various platforms and produce engaging stories that utilize compelling video, graphics, and sound.
• Platform Adaptation:
Adapt content for various platforms, including traditional television broadcasts, streaming services, and social media.
• Collaboration:
Collaborate with newsroom leadership to ensure editorial consistency and technical quality.
• Digital Media:
Utilize social media and digital tools for research, content discovery, and distribution.
Meteorologist
WKYC-TV, the Tegna owned NBC affiliate in Cleveland, Ohio is looking for a dynamic and engaging Meteorologist to join our passionate team. This position is responsible for preparing and delivering accurate weather reports on-air and online in a conversational manner. The key responsibility is the ability to gather and analyze information and alert our audiences about what’s going to happen with weather in their community. We are looking for a team player who can help with every aspect of meteorology, from forecasting, to preparing graphics, to reporting in the field, you will be an integral part of severe weather coverage, and reaching our consumers not only on TV, but online and on social media. The ideal candidate embraces new technology and is willing to explore new ways to present the weather story. As a central member of the WX department, the ideal candidate is a team player who participates in brainstorming and planning for future shows, including important weather events and explainers.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts in a multi-platform environment
- Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary.
- Produce clean, creative and informative graphics to tell the weather story
- Fill in on other shifts when necessary.
- Write and report from the field or inside the newsroom
- Update website and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Multiskilled Journalist
WKYC-TV Cleveland, the NBC TEGNA affiliate, is looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist to help maintain our tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering. We are interested in finding a journalist who can create unique, memorable and well written stories, who can share them on all platforms with a mix of outstanding photography and unforgettable editing. If you’re a creative storyteller who understands true multi-platform journalism and who is not bound by the methods of traditional TV news – we want to hear from you!
Current driver’s license and ability to operate news gathering vehicle to and from various locations is required.
Responsibilities:
- Perform authoritative, compelling live shots in a developing story or in breaking news situations
- Develop story ideas
- Mine the community to find sources who will keep you informed about events and ideas in their areas of expertise
- Ability to identify, write and produce stories within a specific framework.
- Research for facts and credibility.
- Maintain and develop sources who will help bring our reporting to the next level.
- Shoot, write, produce and edit on air and online content within deadlines.
- Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
- Use social media and digital tools to research, discover and distribute content.
- Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.
- Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner.
