Access resources designed to help interns and emerging professionals build lasting careers in film, media, and the arts.

Looking for an internship? Consider these tips:

  • Be proactive: Reach out to production companies, theaters, and media outlets directly.
  • Show your skills: Highlight transferable strengths—organization, communication, creativity—alongside your passion for film.
  • Network locally: Attend workshops, panels, and industry networking events like a GCFC Media Mixer to connect with potential mentors.

Stay flexible

Productions move fast, be polite and responsive in your communications. Being teachable, and having a willingness to adapt will set you apart. Remember, "hungry, humble, and smart" are the three core virtues of being an Ideal Team Player.

Where can I find production companies that might be taking interns?

A list of production companies registered in the GCFC Crew & Vendor Database can be found HERE.

What other opportunities might exist?

Many transferable skills can be gained from organizations across the entertainment industry, including: theater, broadcasting, advertising, and events arts & communications companies or nonprofits.

We also recommend reaching out to local production equipment rental companies, film festivals, post production companies, and other media production related organizations about internship and shadowing opportunities.

With so many opportunities, how do I get started?

Research and identify relevant staff member(s) specializing in the department you’re most interested in. Introduce yourself via email (attach current resume PDF) and ask for a phone/Zoom call to pick their brain about the industry and their career. GCFC calls these 'info interviews' where you come prepared with questions to ask. You can also schedule a call with GCFC staff any time.
