CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Like it or not, James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe is moving full speed ahead.

That’s the message from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav following the strong opening weekend for “Superman,” the first film in the revamped cinematic franchise. Directed by Gunn and produced by Safran — whom Zaslav tapped in 2022 to lead DC Studios — the movie soared to $125 million in North American ticket sales, setting a record for the best opening by a solo Superman film. It also became just the third movie this year to clear $100 million in its first three days, joining “A Minecraft Movie” and “Lilo & Stitch.”
