Necks are cranked to the darkened sky. Through the clouds, something flashes by sending ripples across the lake – a blur of blue and red spandex. Fear turns into thunderous applause throughout the city as a caped hero and his four-legged friend, Krypto, arrive just in time to save the city from great turmoil once again.

Comic book lovers would call this city Metropolis. But in Ohio, there’s no illusion. Clevelanders know that the caped hero isn’t really from Krypton. Rather, Superman’s Kryptonian escape pod hits the shore a little closer to home.

Long before his emblem became a global icon, Superman was just an idea born by the minds of two Jewish boys in the Glennville neighborhood, and ever since, the proud city of Cleveland has claimed the hero as their own. This summer, he is returning to the big screen, straight from the streets that inspired its creation.
