Animation | CSU School of Film & Media Arts Odyssey Program

Students explore the art and craft of animation through hands-on creative projects that emphasize visual storytelling, movement, and design. Through guided instruction and collaborative exercises, students learn how stories come to life through animation, from concept to final frame. 

Workshops in Animation: 

Principles of Animation:
Students learn the fundamentals of animation, including timing, movement, and visual rhythm, to bring drawings and characters to life. 

  • Character & Story Development:
    Explore how character design, emotion, and story structure work together to create engaging animated narratives.
  • Visual Storytelling & Storyboarding:
    Learn how to plan animated sequences using storyboardsto communicate ideas clearly and creatively. 
  • Animation Techniques:
    Students experiment with digital animation tools and techniques while creating short animated sequences. Instruction focuses on frame-by-frame animation, motion, and visual continuity.

Students present their completed animated work in a final showcase celebrating their creative progress and accomplishments. Through these workshops, CSU faculty introduce students to animation fundamentals, storytelling, and digital production workflows. Each participant completes a short animated project and receives a copy of their work for their portfolio. 

Students attend sessions Monday–Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Lunch is provided.
