About the Talk:
Professor Catherine Sheehy will deliver the 2026 YAA–Redpath Lecture for the Yale Alumni Association of Cleveland with a talk on the novelist, playwright, and screenwriter Dawn Powell—an Ohio native whose sharp wit and keen social observation shaped both American literature and early Hollywood storytelling. As part of Ohio’s America 250 celebration and the statewide “Ohio Goes to the Movies” initiative, this lecture will explore Powell’s journey from Ohio to New York and Hollywood, illuminating how her Midwestern roots informed her vision of American life, culture, and performance. The program will highlight Powell’s enduring relevance and Ohio’s often overlooked influence on American arts and cinema.
