Hey there! My name is Lex!
I grew up and went to school in Brecksville OH, now I am currently attending Cleveland State University’s School of Film & Media Arts, on track to graduate with a BFA in Cinematography in May, 2025. Since I was a kid, I’ve taken on new hobbies, skills and trades. And all of these things always had one thing in common: I was designing something, building something or creating a world or space.
Even at a young age, my mom saw something in me that got me interested in the performing arts — singing, acting and dancing. I loved these activities, but at a certain point, I knew I was on the wrong side of the curtain (or the camera). At 12, I began to document my hobbies and interests on video. I recorded whatever I was doing: building something in the garage, playing the drums, or skiing with friends. My vision of the spaces was always central to the filming.
I’ve always loved movies and TV. I knew early on that I wanted to attend Film School. I had a good understanding of how to use camera gear and I had an eye for visual design, and of course, a love for building things. One day, during my first semester, I learned what a production designer does. I immediately knew that it was what I wanted to do.
Filmography:
During my first year of film school, I started working at a small video production company that made commercials. The more the company grew, the more opportunities I had to learn and gain experience working in this industry.
Throughout my time in school I had also begun working as a production designer on some senior thesis projects outside of class. This was an amazing way to gain additional experience working with creative individuals.
All of this helped me foster this new found love for the art department. It also taught me that, with a perfect team of well rounded and passionate individuals, you can make any idea a reality. I’ve had the great opportunity to work on some great projects all based out of Northeast Ohio. Check out my website to connect with me and see what I’ve been working on. www.lexspeer.com
